A First-Hand Dorset Wedding Venue Guide • BB3LIVE
OUR FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUES IN DORSET
Coastal gardens, country houses, traditional barns and a spectacular castle—nine Dorset wedding venues we know from performing at weddings there.
From afternoon music overlooking Studland Bay to evening celebrations beneath a historic house, these are places that have stayed with us. Here is what we love about their settings, alongside a few first-hand observations to help you plan your own celebration.
Our Perspective
YOUR SETTING. YOUR CELEBRATION. OUR FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE.
Choosing a wedding venue is about picturing yourselves there: arriving together, gathering your favourite people and watching the day turn into an evening celebration. Dorset offers some wonderful settings, whether you imagine sea views, garden drinks or dancing in a characterful barn.
We have performed at weddings at every venue in this guide. Some have welcomed us many times; others stand out from individual celebrations. Alongside the surroundings, we remember the people, the atmosphere and how the evening came together.
This is a personal shortlist rather than a ranking. Each venue has something different to offer, and our practical observations are here to help you ask useful questions when you visit.

THE PLACES THAT STAY WITH US
Studland • Coastal Lawns and Marquee Celebrations
1. Harry Warren House
Harry Warren House’s setting is a large part of its appeal: a country house in Studland, with lawns overlooking the bay and a beautiful backdrop for a marquee celebration beside the sea. For a summer wedding, the combination of gardens, open water and an evening gathering on the lawn is hard to beat.
We have performed at around seven or eight weddings here, including acoustic afternoon music on the lawn and evening celebrations in a large marquee overlooking Studland Bay. The views on a summer evening are exceptional. From our perspective, that combination of afternoon music outdoors and a marquee party later on made for a particularly memorable celebration.
We do not recall encountering a sound limiter during those performances, although that should not be taken as confirmation of the current policy. We also remember the team taking care to protect the lawns—something to discuss when planning supplier access and equipment.
What stays with us: Acoustic music on the lawn, exceptional summer-evening views and wedding parties overlooking Studland Bay.
Dorset • Victorian Character and Garden Celebrations
2. Abbots Court
Abbots Court combines a Victorian country house with gardens, woodland and a choice of characterful wedding spaces. The restored stables, walled garden and reception pavilion give different parts of the day their own setting, from exchanging vows to gathering everyone together for the evening.
We remember great staff and an evening layout that worked particularly well at the wedding we played. The bar was in the same room as the band, helping keep guests together and making it easy to move between a drink, a conversation and the dance floor.
We remember a fairly large dance floor and a built-in raised stage that gave the band a prominent place in the room. For couples who want live music to be a central part of the evening, those details are well worth thinking about.
What stays with us: Great staff and an evening layout that kept the bar, band and dancing together.
Bransgore • Country-Inn Hospitality and Traditional Barn Character
3. The Three Tuns
The Three Tuns in Bransgore offers a relaxed setting with a traditional listed barn, a marquee and a pub garden. Its appeal is the character of a country inn and the opportunity for a wedding that feels informal and welcoming.
We have played many weddings and other events here, and the staff have always been a highlight. Rebekah, who organised events during our visits, deserves a particular mention. We associate The Three Tuns with warm hospitality and plenty of great celebrations.
From a band’s perspective, we remember straightforward access, an 11pm music finish and no sound limiter during our performances. Those arrangements helped the evenings run smoothly; confirm the current details when discussing your own plans.
What stays with us: A welcoming barn setting, excellent staff and many enjoyable celebrations.
Dorset • Georgian Elegance and Beautiful Wedding Gardens
4. Parley Manor
Parley Manor brings together a Georgian manor house, landscaped lawns and an Italian walled garden, with a marquee set among the grounds. There is plenty here to appeal to couples picturing a garden wedding: greenery around the celebration, drinks outdoors and an evening party within the gardens.
We have performed for more than 20 weddings here across different performance areas, so Parley Manor is somewhere we know particularly well. The beautiful gardens, good staff and many enjoyable evenings have left us with a very positive impression.
We recall a sound limiter that required a little care, but we successfully performed with our full live setup. It is a useful conversation to have between the venue and your band early on, so everyone understands the current requirements.
What stays with us: Beautiful gardens and more than 20 weddings that have given us plenty of happy memories.
Dorset • Historic Country-House Style and a Basement Party
5. St Giles House
St Giles House offers the grandeur of a historic country house, with ornate interiors and a terrace overlooking its sunken garden. The house and grounds provide an elegant backdrop for the day, before the evening takes on a different atmosphere downstairs.
We performed in the basement, a distinctive brick-vaulted space beneath the house. The dark atmosphere and striking in-house lighting made it a memorable setting for the evening, and the staff were great. We liked the upstairs spaces too—the contrast between the house above and the party below was part of its appeal.
From memory, we used our ampless setup—electronic drums and no backline amplifiers—to accommodate the space and its sound requirements. We also recall a sound limiter, although couples should confirm the current arrangements with the venue. Sharing those details with your band before the day helps them arrive with the right equipment.
What stays with us: A characterful house, great staff and an atmospheric basement celebration with striking lighting.

Dorset • Spectacular Castle Weddings
6. Lulworth Castle
Lulworth Castle makes a spectacular backdrop for a wedding. Its towers and parkland give the arrival a real sense of grandeur, while the partially restored interior combines tall windows, exposed walls and impressive architectural spaces. It is a striking setting for couples who want the building itself to be part of the occasion.
We performed inside the castle for a wedding and remember good staff and organisation alongside the sheer impact of the surroundings. It is certainly a venue that stays with you.
The stage at our event was extremely high, which made us feel a little disconnected from guests. For couples looking for a grand, spectacular venue, we see that as an understandable compromise. Ask about the current stage and dance-floor arrangement when picturing your evening.
What stays with us: The sheer spectacle of playing a wedding inside the castle.
Studland • Waterfront Views and Coastal Celebrations
7. Shell Bay
Shell Bay sits beside the water in Studland, with views towards Brownsea Island and a west-facing outlook for the sunset. The restaurant setting offers a different feel from a country house or barn: a coastal celebration where the water and changing evening light are part of the backdrop.
We remember wonderful waterfront views, great food and lovely staff from the wedding we played. The setting felt distinctive, and those details made a strong impression beyond the performance itself.
Our band setup was in a glass-surrounded conservatory, which made the acoustics challenging. Balancing the sound needed care, so the position of the band is worth discussing as you plan the evening.
What stays with us: Wonderful views, great food and lovely staff in a distinctive waterfront setting.
Symondsbury • Stone Walls, Exposed Beams and Countryside Character
8. The Tithe Barn, Symondsbury
Exposed beams, stone walls and large windows give The Tithe Barn at Symondsbury its character, while the courtyard and gardens offer somewhere to gather outside. It has the traditional countryside appearance many couples love, with natural light bringing out the textures of the building.
We have enjoyed a few great celebrations at The Tithe Barn in Symondsbury. It is a venue we remember fondly, with a traditional barn atmosphere that appealed to us.
Our setup was a little tricky because the band was positioned in front of the bar. It is worth discussing how the band, bar and dance floor will fit together for your chosen layout, so the evening works comfortably for everyone.
What stays with us: Traditional barn character and a few great celebrations.

Wimborne • Garden Weddings and Lakeside Marquee Celebrations
9. Deans Court
Deans Court offers a garden wedding setting with a historic house, spacious grounds and a marquee beside the lake. The combination of greenery and water gives the reception a lovely backdrop, with the gardens becoming an illuminated setting as the evening draws in.
Our wedding memories of Deans Court are from a few years ago, so some details are a little hazy, but what stays with us is a beautiful, large back lawn behind the main house and a lovely outdoor setting.
We remember performing in an open-sided marquee, and the staff were great. The grounds and marquee setting are the details that have stayed with us most.
What stays with us: Beautiful grounds, an open-sided marquee and great staff.
Practical Wedding Planning
PICTURE THE PARTY, AS WELL AS THE PHOTOGRAPHS
Once you have found a setting you love, picture how the evening will unfold. Where will guests gather? Can they see the dance floor from the bar? Will the band feel part of the celebration? Small details in the layout can make a real difference once the music starts.
It also helps to introduce your venue and band early. Sound requirements, access and available space can affect the equipment musicians bring, particularly in unusual rooms such as the basement at St Giles House.
ASK ABOUT THE ROOM
- Where will the band and dance floor be positioned?
- Will the bar be in the same room as the evening entertainment?
- Is there a stage, and how high is it?
- How will the layout work with your guest numbers?
PLAN THE MUSIC TOGETHER
- Ask for the current sound requirements and music finish time.
- Find out whether a sound limiter applies to your chosen space.
- Share access, setup and power arrangements with your band.
- Agree an alternative plan for any outdoor performances.
Our experiences reflect the celebrations we performed. Confirm current availability, layouts, staging and music arrangements with your venue and band when planning your own day.

DORSET WEDDING VENUES: YOUR QUESTIONS
Has BB3LIVE played weddings at every venue in this guide?
Yes. We have performed at weddings at all nine venues. Our experience ranges from individual celebrations to repeated visits, including more than 20 weddings at Parley Manor and around seven or eight at Harry Warren House.
Which venues stood out for a coastal wedding?
Harry Warren House and Shell Bay both left us with particularly strong memories of their views. At Harry Warren House, we played acoustic music on the lawn and evening celebrations in a marquee overlooking Studland Bay. At Shell Bay, we remember wonderful waterfront views alongside great food and lovely staff.
Can a wedding band perform with a sound limiter?
It depends on the limiter, the room and the band’s equipment. We have successfully used our full live setup at Parley Manor during past weddings. At St Giles House, we recall using electronic drums and no backline amplifiers to accommodate the space and its sound requirements. Share the venue’s current requirements with your band before booking so they can advise on a suitable setup.
What should we discuss with our band before the wedding?
Share the venue’s music requirements, the room or marquee you are using, the band’s position, access times and the evening schedule. If you are planning outdoor acoustic music as well as an evening performance, discuss both setups and the alternative plan if the weather changes.
